Nigerian President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has been named among the top finalists for the Organised Crime and Corruption Reporting Project's (OCCRP) 2024 Corrupt Person of the Year list. The OCCRP, a global network of investigative journalists working to expose corruption and organized crime, compiled this year's list through an extensive voting process that garnered 55,000 nominations from readers, journalists, and expert judges within their global network. Kenya's President William Ruto topped the nominations, followed by former Indonesian President Joko Widodo, with Tinubu securing the third position. Other finalists included former Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and Indian businessman Gautam Adani.

Tinubu's inclusion on this list comes amid longstanding concerns about his wealth and financial dealings. During his 2023 presidential campaign, questions about his source of wealth remained largely unanswered, while allegations of drug trafficking, forgery, and financial misconduct have persistently followed him. A particularly concerning revelation emerged in May 2023 when corporate documents showed that his son, Seyi Tinubu, owned a $10.8 million London mansion – a property previously slated for confiscation by the Nigerian government in 2017. The property's ownership history, linking it to Kolawole Aluko and alleged criminal proceeds, has raised eyebrows among international observers. Reports have also connected additional UK properties to the Tinubu family.
