Nigeria’s Super Falcons delivered a resounding 3–2 comeback win over Morocco to claim their record‑extending 10th Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) title. In recognition of their achievement, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu personally hosted the team and showered them with unprecedented honours and gifts.
In the final held in Morocco’s capital, Nigeria found themselves trailing 2–0 within the first 24 minutes. But under coach Justine Madugu, the team rallied with tactical changes and renewed belief. Esther Okoronkwo, named Player of the Final, spearheaded the comeback, setting up a thrilling 3–2 victory. Their win reaffirms Nigeria as Africa’s dominant force in women’s football.
On July 28, 2025 at Aso Rock in Abuja, President Tinubu celebrated the Super Falcons with sweeping honours:
Each of the 24 players received:
• $100,000 (in naira equivalent, approx. ₦153 million)
• A three-bedroom apartment in the “Renewed Hope Housing Scheme”
• The national honour: Officer of the Order of the Niger (OON)
Each of the 11 technical staff was awarded:
• $50,000 in naira equivalent
• A three‑bedroom apartment
• The OON honour
Additionally, the Nigeria Governors’ Forum contributed ₦10 million to each of the players and technical team members.
President Tinubu extolled the team’s resilience, courage, and discipline, calling them paragons of national unity and hope. He recounted how watching the match stirred a mix of anxiety and pride and ultimately uplifted the spirit of the nation.
